About Pajama Forest! | Pajama Forest

The Strip:
Pajama Forest is a twice weekly (Monday/Thursday) comic strip that follows the awesomely imaginative adventures of dude named August and his little brother Ed. Every once in a while Pajama Forest features "Semi-True Tales" of the lives of Evan (the cartoonist) and his wife.

The Cast:

August

August: A twenty something dude who takes care of his little brother and his Grandfather while trying to have some semblance of a normal-ish life. Has a thing for kites and awkward situations.

Ed

Ed: August's little brother. Likes to concoct schemes with his Grandpa when August is not around. Loooves him some ice cream sammiches, freezie pops too (not the purple ones). His best friend is a winter coat named Petie.

Grandpa

Grandpa: August and Ed's Grandfather. He totally lived through the great depression, which probably made him a little off in the head.

Lola

Lola: We're not really sure who this girlie is, but she does have a hot air balloon which makes her pretty rad in my book. August may have met her before...

Evan

Evan: That's me, the cartoonist of this comic. I sometimes makes appearances in the strip to tell semi-true tales of my real life.

TheWife

The Wife: Yup, my wife. She also makes appearances from time to time to help tell semi-true tales from our lives.

F.A.Q.s

Who is Evan Diaz?

I’m a twenty something Christian dude who lives with my wife in the Houston, TX area of the world. In addition to working on Pajama Forest, I am working as a freelance artist on a children’s book series, the first of which is due out in Spring of 2010. I am currently also working as a 3D animator and special effects artist for a studio in Houston.

How do you draw Pajama Forest?

I sometimes sketch out ideas with pen or pencil on scrap paper, but I usually work entirely digitally. I currently use a Wacom Intuos 4 drawing tablet and Adobe Photoshop CS4 to draw all the strips. I might make a visual guide of how I draw the characters at some point in the future.

How long does each strip take to create?

It generally takes around five or six hours to complete each strip. A couple hours to sketch out the panels and dialogue, and couple hours to ink it and a couple more to color and do the finishing touches.

Is August very similar to you?

No, not really. Though drawn similarly, I make no effort to write August like myself; however there is a piece of my personality in all of the characters.
